SATURDAY
1-2pm: Technique for the Yellow Hippopotamus in All of Us... $15
We all have moments in which we feel out of place, clumsy, like, Whose feet are these?! The Yellow Hippopotamus is about learning to love even the parts you don’t like about yourself, finding poise in unfamiliar and unpredictable situations – connecting with yourself better so that you can more seamlessly connect with others.
2:15-4:15pm: Fundamentals of Four-Leggedness... $25
Dancing/living as a four-legged creature implies the vulnerability of collaboration and the gratification of feeling heard, of feeling like your partner's two legs are yours and vice versa. It requires a flexible mentality, in which the ultimate goal is to work together to maintain the connection as you move through space and time.
4:15-5:30pm: Guided Practica/Potluck... $5 *
Let’s share some snacks and discuss and practice the concepts explored in the workshops. Gabriela will be available for questions/trouble-shooting. Come tango, tango, tango!
SUNDAY
1-3pm: Tango is About the Connection... $25
Gabriela has shared her approach to tango through the prism of connection across the country, both through her book When 1+1=1: That “Impossible” Connection and her tango teaching. This is her signature workshop: an introduction, a reminder, an excuse to slow down and listen, really listen to one another so that connecting becomes the foundation of the dance. From there, the possibilities are endless. Tango is about connecting with your partner, with those who share the space with you, and with yourself. Tango is About the Connection. (Testimonials)
3:15-4:15pm: Let’s Play Footsie: Pasadas... $15
These “footsie” workshops explore technique for specific movements from the inside-out. Through this organic approach, even tangueros with more experience will discover details that turn foot play from clumsy and uncomfortable to delicious and delectable, with insights that will take your tango footsie game to the next level.
FOCUS: pasadas and sanguchitos (sandwiches)
SATURDAY
1-2pm: Play With Your Feet, Ladies/Follows!... $15
Liberate your legs; play with your feet. One hour of tools to help you personalize your tango by creating your own embellishments and finding your own style. Tango is walking with style.
2:15-4:15pm: Good Things Happen in Small Spaces... $25
When we dance at a milonga, we dance not only with our partner but with all of the couples on the dance floor. Managing limited resources in tight places requires clarity, creativity and a more flexible mentality. It requires us to be more patient with one another and develop a more elastic approach. This workshop will explore awareness, presence, and intention and the magic that happens in small spaces.
4:15-5:30pm: Guided Practica/Potluck... $5 *
Let’s share some snacks and discuss and practice the concepts explored in the workshops. Gabriela will be available for questions/trouble-shooting. Come tango, tango, tango!
SUNDAY
1-3pm: The Elastic Connection... $25
A rigid embrace can complicate our relationships. We sometimes get stuck in structures, paradigms, in patterns we develop, but life is fluid, like the tide. In order to meet each partner where they’re at, we need to be more elastic and we need to adapt to one another. Dance like seaweed, flow like water. This workshop is designed to shift your focus from what should be to what is.
3:15-4:15pm: Let’s Play Footsie: Sacadas... $15
These “footsie” workshops explore technique for specific movements from the inside-out. Through this organic approach, even tangueros with more experience will discover details that turn foot play from clumsy and uncomfortable to delicious and delectable, with insights that will take your tango footsie game to the next level.
FOCUS: sacadas
SATURDAY
1:00-5:15pm (15 min break) Tango: A Game of Improvisation... $45
*modeled after Rodolfo Dinzel's Seminario de Improvisacion
Co-create an active partnership, see "mistakes" as opportunities, dance in the moment, be in the moment. Spend four hours of your life feeling rather than thinking. This workshop will help you focus on the present: on yourself, your partner, and the conversation that is tango. Tango is a game of improvisation: seize each moment of every tango – and play. (Testimonials)
5:15-7:00pm: Guided Practica/Potluck... $5 *
Let’s share some snacks and discuss and practice the concepts explored in the workshop. Gabriela will be available for questions/trouble-shooting. Come tango, tango, tango! (*FREE for Workshop participants)
SUNDAY
1:00-3:00pm: Presence: A New Flavor of Chocolate... $25
This workshop will focus on developing presence, intention, and depth for a richer conversation. Learn to subtly tease out new flavors and nuances in your dance.
3:15-5:15pm: Feel the Music: Be The Music... $25
The tango couple is a musical instrument; both partners contribute to musical interpretation and participate in the conversation with the orchestra. In this workshop we will explore a multi-dimensional approach to connecting and playing with the music we dance to.
“I teach tango with the idea that the connection comes first; that if you can build a good connection, the possibilities are endless. Tango is about what is, not what should be. Each tango is unique and each person brings something exceptional to the dance. Since the tango couple is more than just the sum of its parts, you can’t dance tango by yourself. Tango is about the connection with your partner, with those who share the space with you, and with yourself.” (video -->)
